The Auxiliary bombardment failed two weeks agone. Took the car to the dealer and was told I needed a new one. Service advisor informed me that the battery is a "Dealer Particular" and I tin not get it anywhere else. Left the identify $451. lighter.
A couple days later I did some searching online and I see several places that claim the battery they sell will fit the 2016 Prius for half the cost.
I would like to hear from those that accept replaced the bombardment from a "Parts house".
Please provide make, CCA, cost and any other pertinent information.
For instance, Batteries Plus claims the have 2 batteries that volition fit.
  2. Hullo - welcome. In that location has been some discussion - I can't say I stored it in my retentiveness - but if y'all do a search for something like "Gen iv 12 Volt battery", you lot will find some threads.

I'm not certain if CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) is a totally relevant point, every bit it does no Cold Cranking - all actual cranking is done by the Traction Battery.

But check for previous discussions - and hopefully those involved will chime in with information.

The dealer replaced my faulty battery under warranty - just a standard off-the-shelf 45AH battery.

The original poster in that thread (@Edward Kennedy) never told us what battery he finally installed. Possibly I missed information technology, only I tin't think a report on PriusChat that a specific, third-political party bombardment sold in the U.Southward. was successfully installed in a 4th-generation Prius. That'south not to say it wouldn't work, of course, just that no one has actually done so and reported information technology hither.

Regarding the warranty, see my posting in this thread.

I guess I should mention that the car had 97xxx miles when the battery went out. Information technology was past warranty. I drive for Uber and Lyft. I have put 79630 miles on it since I purchased it used with 18xxx miles on it in February of 2017.

Hummm, more than I read about 12v bombardment for Prius, I am starting to worry about very loftier replacement cost in future. Is there something special about Gen4 (which I suppose includes Prime) 12 five battery? I've never heard of $450 for 12 v battery replacement.

On March xviii, 2020, the 84 month warrantied battery was purchased from Toyota dealer for $176 + revenue enhancement. Anyone who paid $451 foro a battery solitary got ripped off. AutoZone had a 36 month battery for $139, but nosotros wanted a longer warranty. The original 2016 Prius IV battery was a 36 calendar month bombardment.

I take been trying to notice a suitable 12V battery replacement for my 2017 Prius Ii. All of the "box store" recommendations mentioned here on Prius Chat come dorsum every bit "not suitable for your vehicle" or simply non available on the shop'southward website. I have twoscore,000 mi. on the 2017 Prius with a "weak" bombardment (according to the Prius dealer). I checked the voltage this morn later sitting all night and just backing the machine out of the garage. It was 12.36v and according to what I read here whatever voltage nether 12.6v indicates the battery should be replaced. What's astonishing to me is of the four Prius' I've endemic none have had to have the 12v battery replaced and 2 of them ran over 120,000 miles with the original 12v bombardment! What's going on? I really resist paying $280 for a bombardment at the dealer (and they don't accept any anyway). Where tin can I find a bombardment that fits this vehicle??? All recommendations accustomed! Thanks!

Where did you read this? 12.6v is almost total possibly 90% SoC. If you have to replace the battery at that SoC, nigh all the Prius sitting on a dealer'southward lot would have to get a new battery before sold, and it volition take to be replaced every 3 weeks thereafter. The 12.36v resting voltage is on the weaker side, but even so plenty of SoC left. All yous need is a battery charger/maintainer. As for the deposition of the the 12v battery for Prius Prime which uses the same regular conventional wet led-acrid 12v bombardment as Gen4 Prius, I have been monitoring the 12v bombardment in my most new 2020 Prius Prime purchased in end of Feb this year very closely since the Covid-19 restriction started in March. The car without daily bulldoze (currently simply driven about 50miles/week) does bleed the 12v Soc and in 3-4 weeks it is downwardly to 12.4v on mine. I routinely recharge when the SoC drops below 12.4v.

Equally for the replacement battery, any H4 size battery volition work. The OEM battery is ~$180 (street cost can be lower Part Number: 00544-H4052-470 ), but you can find aftermarket ane for about $120, such as this 1. Champion Premium Battery, Group Size H4 | 2283504 | Pep Boys

That'south a battery for older Prius models and for the Prius c, but information technology's the wrong size for quaternary-generation (2016–) Prius cars, for which the original battery has Toyota part number 28800-37130 or 28800-37140. In the U.S., dealers sell a replacement bombardment under Toyota'southward TrueStart brand, part number 00544-H4052-470, listed with its equivalent sizes (H4 and LN1) in the 2020 edition of Toyota's Bombardment Awarding Chart (PDF).
At that place has been a neat deal of confusion, even among sellers, near battery types for fourth-generation Prius cars. I wouldn't rely on the sellers' websites for application data. As @Salamander_King points out, virtually any size H4, LN1, or 140R battery will do; an AGM bombardment, needed for older Prius models, is not required.

Cheers for correcting the data. My search must have given me a wrong consequence. I edited my comment.

Man! This whole thread has been nothing merely confusing information for me. To start with, I saw this 12.6 low voltage cutoff bespeak by Googling low voltage for a 12V bombardment. Aye, I know, you take to take what you read on Google with a grain of salt, but it seems like that may exist true hither too. After reading and cringing at all the "steps" to replacing the Gen iv bombardment I am probably going to take to find someone to do this for me. I'thousand in my mid-80s and prefer not to get into the stress of having to deal with the mindboggling sequences I'm reading here needed to prevent problems with the electric system with the car. One post says it's simply like replacing a bombardment in any car and the exact opposite in a post saying y'all demand a post-doctoral degree to figure out how to do this. All of this coupled with the fact that even if you were willing to rob a bank to purchase the dealer battery, no dealer has one anyway! My wife is worried at present that she's going to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere but I would be willing to let information technology get for a while. I'd prefer to buy an 84-calendar month warranty bombardment as I probably won't be keeping this motorcar that long anyhow, but again, where do I find i and who'south going to put it in? Frustrating search!!!!

I gave a link for the Pepboy selling the compatible battery for $108. No, it' non OEM and it does not come with 84 months warranty, only honestly it should be just as good every bit OEM battery that sells at $180 (MSRP) which has ~$140 street toll that I also gave yous a correct link after editing my comment (although the shipping cost wold brand this item to exist more expensive than what the website says). Information technology is best to detect 1 locally, that style y'all automobile bet the core refund by exchanging the old battery.

And irresolute the 12v battery on Gen4 Prius is as like shooting fish in a barrel equally any other regular car that has a wet led-acid bombardment. The battery is located under the hood. Y'all do not demand to crawl into the trunk of the car. As long equally you are careful not to connect it reverse, it should be one of the easiest DIY maintenance item on current PRIUS.

Thank you Salamander_King! I take changed batteries in vehicles for years, but as I said, reading all the steps, etc I saw here on PC, I began to question whether I should practice this in fearfulness of screwing up the car in some other way.

From what you accept said I assume whatever compatible 12V bombardment with the aforementioned case size and specs would work. I'yard certain knowing the left/correct position of the + and - terminals are critical, but possibly all 12V batteries have the same configuration - I've never thought about that earlier! Thanks once more. I volition check out Pep Boys to see what I come up upwards with. I appreciate your help.
